We have courses in Österfärnebo and Gävle as well as in Alsike and Stjärnsund. Here you can read more about what is available in the various locations.
The school has several buildings – the former dairy (Mejan), the boarding house (Lychous), the Bohms residential building and the old vicarage which is also the school's office. At Lychous there is a fine garden and at the parsonage a baker's cottage. On the school grounds there is also a greenhouse and a vegetable garden which is now run as a co-cultivation. The school also has access to the larger meeting room Gåvan with the possibility of organizing concerts, conferences or cinema evenings.
Nearby is the Dalälven and Färnebofjärdens nationalpark which is known for its beautiful nature where you can swim, canoe, hike and look for beavers. Read more
Färnebo folk high school has been in Gävle since 2013, when the school started operations with general courses. Since 2020, the school has been housed in a premises at Drottninggatan 48 that goes by the name "Gevalia". The premises are located next to the coffee roastery and are shared with the organization Kultura. From Gävle Central Station it is approximately 300 meters to the school.
In Gävle is given General course with approximately 65 participants each semester. In addition to the General Course, it also houses Study-motivating folk high school course here. In the evenings, it is possible to rent the premises for local associations, for example.
In Stjärnsund there are businesses and green zealots who live and work together for an ecological countryside. There you will find inspiration and knowledge about permaculture, forest gardens, vegetable growing, ecological construction, tiny houses, natural forestry, biological diversity, personal development and much more. In the village there are a. kiosk, café and restaurant, Stjärnsund's mansion and Fridhem's course yard.
In Stjärnsund, Färnebo folk high school is located at Fridhem's course farm and hostel. There we have lessons, meals and overnight accommodation.
Alsike Garden runs an organic KRAV certified vegetable farm on 0.5 ha of open land and a 500 m2 greenhouse. Since the start in 2008, they have delivered vegetable bags to private consumers (cooperative farming). They also sell their vegetables at markets, via RekoRing and to grocery stores/wholesalers. Alsike Trädgård also organizes shorter and longer courses in organic farming. Since 2013, they have arranged the course in collaboration with Färnebo Folkhögskola Small-scale organic farming. On the course, you get to follow Alsike Trädgård's work for a year and learn the artisanal basics to succeed as a grower.
