SMF is a course for job seekers who have neither a high school diploma nor a basic university qualification and are enrolled in Arbetsförmedlingen.

The teaching is based on the folk high school's pedagogy which emphasizes active participation, conversation and joint learning in groups. We work a lot to strengthen the course participants' self-esteem and personal development through mentoring conversations and by motivating in groups to continue their studies. During the course, participants also receive study guidance and are given the opportunity to investigate alternative study paths. Many participants at SMF highlight the personal meetings and that you get a context where you meet others in the same situation as positive about the course.

Course structure

The content of the course is based on the needs of the course participants, our focus at Färnebo is, however, on Swedish and social orientation as well as training in study techniques. We take on the Swedish language in a number of different ways; by conversing, through grammar exercises and word knowledge, by listening to different dialects and through writing exercises. In addition to Swedish, the teachers on the course also speak Persian, Arabic and English.

The school's profile issues of global justice, feminism, climate justice and anti-racism permeate the course. But cultural exchange is also an important part of SME with us at Färnebo. It could be, for example, that we learn about each other's traditions, religion, cooking, clothes or dance from different countries and regions. Aesthetic activity and creation can also be included in the course.

The studies are mixed with study visits, excursions, museum and theater visits and city walks where the participants get to know other course participants at the school. The participants also take part in health care and outdoor days together with General course.

The participant is expected to be able to do this after completing the course

After completion of the training, we issue a certificate which shows what knowledge and skills you as a participant have acquired. The goal is that you will then be able to go on to studyGeneral coursewhich provides high school qualifications. The long-term goal for SMF is to prepare you as a participant for working life in Sweden.
