Since the mid 70s, the school has organized courses traveling to Africa and Latin America. The courses give participants the opportunity to stay a period in the country and gain an insight into organizations that work for the environment, various rights issues and local development in countries like Tanzania, South Africa and Ecuador.
Färnebo Folk High School also organizes “Allmän kurs”, which are courses at primary and secondary school level. We offer this kind of courses in Gävle.
The school has around 100 students on longer courses, and organizes shorter courses together with various peace, ecology and solidarity groups.
Färnebo Folk High School has courses with boarding at the school in Österfärnebo in southern Gästrikland. Österfärnebo is a village in the rural areas very close to Dalälven 60 kilometers south of Gävle and 80 kilometers north of Uppsala.
In Österfärnebo vicinity there is about 1400 people. It is a living community. It has, among other things: a kiosk, Lundgren’s cafe, pizzeria, ICA, a few second hand shops, rehearsal space for youth music practitioners and a new fine library. Österfärnebo IF – the local sports club provide opportunities for young and old to play football, practice orienteering and more. In the village you can train in a brand new sports hall, run in local running tracks and practice in the gym. In Österfärnebo you also find Gysinge with Färnebofjärden National Park.
Färnebo Folk High Schoool is religiously and politically independent.
